I bought myself a Christmas present, a Kindle. Actually I’ve had it since the beginning of December and I love it. I didn’t think I would at first. It took me about a week to get use to holding it. It’s not the same as having a book in your hands. Now I know all the arguements about the smell of a book or the feel of one in your hand etc etc. After about a week I was use to holding it and already finished reading my first book on it. I was hooked. It’s just the right size and shape. This afternoon I was reading away quite happily and I got the urge to buy Glenn Becks newest book, so I turned on the WiFi, on the Kindle, and went to the Kindle Store and bought it. The whole transaction took about a minute. I’m out $11.99 but I have another book on my Kindle. Most of the books on my Kindle have come from a web site called The Project Gutenburg. It’s a pretty cool place wherein you can download any number of ‘public-domain’ books. I am currently reading, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. I have 4 more by him to get to yet. I also got 9 books by an author I like alot by the name of A.E.W. Mason. Mason writes whodunnits in that overly verbose language of the turn of the century. I kinda’ like him because he writes a sentence, about a page long and you get to the end of it and say…Huh? Go back and reread it again to get the whole meaning. I kinda’ like doing that right now. I mix it up by buying some new books as they come out. As I pointed out earlier.
My Kindle currently contains;
9 books by A.E.W. Mason
4 books by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
The Art of War by Sun Tzu
The Federalist Papers
America by Heart by Sarah Palin
Decision Points by George W. Bush
War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells
Common Sense by Thomas Paine
The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stephenson
The 7 by Glenn Beck
plus the Kindle comes pre-loaded with both The New Oxford American Dictionary and The Oxford Dictionary of English.
All in all I like my new E-reader
Wow! It looks like you have some really great reads. I just finished Decision Points by Bush. I wanted to get his take of his presidency and the book really gives a lot of insights. Let me know how 7, by Glenn Beck comes out. Also, I just downloaded The Federalist Papers.
Keep reading, Brian. 🙂
